Refined ideas and Covid

WEEK 2

27.06.2022 - 01.07.2022

Refined ideas

and Covid

27.06.2022

On my way to the studio I took note of movements/gestures made by the construction workers and I saw:

- Pointing

- Beckoning

- Calling

- Waiting

In the studio, I then began choreographing a movement sequence incorporating these gestures.

I made a sequence that has the potential to collaborate with the movement of lighting as a way of myself 'constructing' the set.

I then found out I had covid so couldn't go into the studio for the rest of the week :(

After taking notice of the construction workers, I wanted to think about the male influences in my personal life. So, I listed my male family members and what came to mind when I thought of them.

From this list, I realised there are sentimental and fond concepts I could play with in terms of my male family members. I can look at masculinity, playing with the semiotics of high vis uniform and the fondness of stories from my male ancestry.

29.06.2022

I had my first tutorial with Patrick and we refined down the main ideas and topics I will be looking at for my show. These are:

* Windthrow - its process, urban trees, network and support of trees

* Masculinity from a female perspective - everyman workers and own family, ancestry,

* The Urban (construction and the city) and the Rural (Cornwall, my dad's hometown)

For set, we talked about potentially having a small construction site on stage. This would take the form of scaffolding and a platform. The scaffolding also has the ability to be referenced to as a tree at some point or be used in maypole dancing - when looking at rural traditions.

To get an insight on folk theatre, some theatre companies and forms to look at were:

- Kneehigh

- Maypole dancing
