Home
and the hive

Travelled home for a rest break and inspiration from a rural, village setting.

Today I did some research on bees and their behaviours. Thinking about isolation in the city, I wondered what would happen if a bee went/was forced solo from its hive.
This is what I discovered:

- Absconding is the term applied to a colony of bees that abandons it's nest
- Instead of all the bees leaving together, they go one by one
- Bees abscond in their hive is unacceptable due to:
- a lack of resources
- pests
- frequent disturbances
- haven't adapted yet

- If a bee gets trapped in the house with no access to nectar, it can fly for 40 minutes, providing it has a full stomach of honey
- Worker bees are female
- Drone bees are male

If at any point I intend to refer to bees to link to my high vis jacket, I now have research to support me.

I took my dog for a walk and noticed my primary school had scaffolding surrounding it. To my knowledge, the building has never had any work done to it during my time there or since. In my eyes, North Ferriby Primary School was a valiant and prosperous establishment in the village.

It made me feel surprised, as I have been forming a show around seeing scaffolding in the city and then it appears at my primary school for the first time. It made me think that this could be a nice opportunity to talk about construction, repair and memories of my childhood.
