TUTORIAL
AND TECH IDEAS
23.08.2022
Today, I had another tutorial with my supervisor, Patrick. I did a run of my show and then we sat and discussed feedback and ideas for its development. We found out that:

- My typography and use of the space was only exploring the vertical and horizontal, so, some moments on the diagonal had to be found to make the space more seamless.
- Set pieces needed to be more symbolic, e.g ladder for construction in the city and rope for rural Cornwall
- My piece plays with opposites - city vs village, urban vs rural - and to put emphasis on these
- Sound was needed for when I get dressed onstage to add another element

Today, I worked on the feedback from yesterday's tutorial.

I began with finding diagonals. I looked at my 'at work' movement sequence and there is a running part which was originally vertical, but I found it worked well on the diagonal so I changed that. I found a slow-motion movement that could be done on the diagonal alongside my dad's voice recording. In this, he mentions the waves of the sea and I lift my hand up slowly from the floor and over to the other side to create a similar arc shape. I then recorded myself to see what floor patterns I make with my new directions, here it is sped up.

I then began choreography for my finale dance section and completed 1 minute of the song. The song I am using for my finale dance section is 'A' by Thomas Farnon. This song is also used as the 'siren' in my show, in which it is played for 30 seconds and acts as a calling to me on stage. I hope that by playing the rest of the song at the end of my show, it will feel like a pay off to the audience and, myself, the performer. The siren has eventually taken us to the beach, to the sea, away from the harshness of the city.

Today, I met with Richard to discuss my technical requirements for my show. I had previously sent in my technical requirements form that listed what I needed, here it is:
A few things like set and props have changed since the making of this. I am no longer having scaffolding for set, a ladder will be the replacement of this. Also, sadly, there will no longer be a sausage roll.
I also edited my cover photo and added my title to be able to promote my show. Here is the result.

Today, I continued working on my finale dance. I looked at isolating waving movements in my arms. An inspiration for this is Akram Khan in his piece 'Nameless'. In which, he has a section where he loops a figure of eight motion with his arms and I really like the fluidity of it. My intention of this dance is to find discovery and freedom in the body as my character is finally free at sea.
